Lahore, 23 May 2025: The defending champions, Islamabad United, are set to face Lahore Qalandars this evening at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore during Eliminator 2, which will determine the second finalist of HBL PSL X to compete against Quetta Gladiators on Sunday evening. United, who concluded the league stage in second place with six victories out of 10 matches, including a five-match winning streak, suffered a defeat to the Gladiators in the Qualifier by 30 runs. Conversely, Qalandars finished fourth in the standings and eliminated Karachi Kings in Eliminator 1 last night. United are pursuing a unique achievement in HBL PSL history as they aim to secure a fourth title. Shaheen Shah Afridi’s Lahore Qalandars have claimed both of their HBL PSL titles (2022 & 2023) at the Gaddafi Stadium and are striving to achieve a historic treble at their home venue. Throughout the 10 seasons of HBL PSL, United and Qalandars have clashed 21 times, with both teams nearly evenly matched. Each team has won 10 matches, while Islamabad United triumphed in the one tied match that proceeded to a super over. Islamabad United’s highest score against Lahore Qalandars is 238-3, achieved on 9 March 2019 at National Bank Stadium in Karachi. In contrast, Lahore Qalandars’ highest score against Islamabad United is 226-5, recorded on the same date four years later at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. In Eliminator 2, United will rely on Sahibzada Farhan, who has scored 446 runs in 11 matches, and Jason Holder, who has taken 15 wickets in eight matches. Meanwhile, Qalandars’ Fakhar Zaman (416 runs) and Haris Rauf (15 wickets) are the key players to watch in tonight’s match.
