Starlink is the third company to obtain the license from the Department of Telecom (DoT)

Elon Musk’s Starlink has obtained a license for satellite communication services in India, as reported by the Press Trust of India citing sources.

Starlink is the third company to receive this license from the Department of Telecom (DoT).

Sources from the DoT have confirmed that Starlink has indeed been granted the license, and they stated that trial spectrum will be provided within 15 to 20 days of the application submission.

Elon Musk’s Struggle with India:

Starlink has been awaiting commercial operation licenses in India since 2022; however, delays have arisen due to various factors, including national security issues. Amazon’s Kuiper is also still pending its license for India.

Recently, Musk’s company has engaged in disputes with billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Jio regarding the method by which the country should allocate spectrum for satellite services. The Indian government has supported Musk’s position that spectrum should be assigned rather than auctioned.
