‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ Debuts to Mixed Audience Reactions on Twitter : A Narrative of Love, Loops, and Laughter May 23, 2025 The highly awaited romantic comedy ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, has finally premiered in theaters today following numerous delays and legal challenges. Directed by Karan Sharma and produced by Maddock Films in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, the film offers a distinctive combination of romance and science fiction, set against the lively backdrop of Varanasi.
A Time-Loop Romance ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ narrates the tale of Ranjan (Rajkummar Rao), a hopeless romantic who secures a government position to marry his beloved Titli (Wamiqa Gabbi). However, their wedding preparations take an unforeseen twist when Ranjan becomes ensnared in a time loop, repeatedly experiencing the day of their haldi ceremony, while Titli remains oblivious to this strange occurrence. The film delves into Ranjan’s efforts to escape the loop and the humorous situations that arise. Social Media Buzz: A Mixed Bag Following its release, ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ sparked a wave of reactions on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

While some viewers lauded the film’s lighthearted tone and the chemistry between the lead actors, others criticized its execution and narrative framework. Film critic Taran Adarsh commended the film, describing it as a “heartwarming and feel-good story” and awarded it 3.5 stars. He remarked, “A feel-good story with entertaining moments and some good humor… Loses momentum post-interval, but the strong finale redeems it… A good watch!” Business Standard In contrast, critic Sumit Kadel was less favorable, rating the film 1.5 stars and commenting, “‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ is an exceedingly weak film. The writing and direction are so subpar that although the film attempts to be humorous throughout, it fails to elicit genuine laughter.”
Audience reactions reflected this division. One viewer characterized the film as “a hilarious and deeply emotional journey,” commending Rajkummar Rao’s performance and referring to it as a “well-crafted film.” Conversely, another audience member deemed it “intolerable,” criticizing its antiquated dialogues and absence of humor.
Performances and Production
In spite of the varied critiques, the performances of the lead actors were praised. Rajkummar Rao’s depiction of the sincere and infatuated Ranjan was emphasized as a highlight, with his capacity to express vulnerability and charm enriching the character. Wamiqa Gabbi’s role as Titli was also recognized for its genuineness and warmth.
The film’s production encountered several obstacles. Originally scheduled for a May 9 release, it was delayed due to the 2025 India-Pakistan conflict, resulting in a planned direct-to-streaming launch. However, a legal conflict with PVR Inox regarding the abrupt change led to a court-ordered theatrical release on May 23. The film is now scheduled to be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting June 6.
