Rachel Gupta’s successful tenure as Miss Grand International 2024 concluded amidst controversy when the organization stripped her of her title. Nevertheless, Gupta stated that she chose to leave voluntarily, and for a valid reason.

Rachel Gupta, the first Indian to win the Miss Grand International title, has stepped down from her position less than a year after her historic victory. On May 28, 2025, she announced her resignation, citing “broken promises, mistreatment, and a toxic environment” within the organization .

In a heartfelt social media post, Gupta expressed that the months following her crowning were marked by challenges she could no longer endure in silence. She emphasized that her decision to resign was not taken lightly and promised to share a detailed account of her experiences soon.

However, the Miss Grand International (MGI) Organization responded by stating that Gupta was officially terminated from her role. They cited her failure to fulfill assigned duties, engagement in external projects without prior approval, and refusal to participate in scheduled events as reasons for revoking her title . The organization has requested the return of the crown within 30 days.

Further intensifying the controversy, Gupta has alleged that the pageant system is marred by vote-buying and lacks support for titleholders . She plans to release a comprehensive video detailing her experiences in the coming days.

Following Gupta’s departure, CJ Opiaza of the Philippines, the first runner-up, is expected to assume the Miss Grand International 2024 title. However, an official announcement regarding the succession has yet to be made .
