On Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma remarked that if China were to diminish the water flow of the Brahmaputra, it would be advantageous for the state and assist in alleviating the catastrophic annual floods. This statement was made in response to Pakistan’s comment suggesting that China might use the Brahmaputra’s waters as a weapon in favor of its “all-weather friend” and retaliate against India’s halt of the Indus Water Treaty.
