Karan Johar has taken on the role of host for a new ‘ruthless’ reality series named The Traitors. On Friday, the producers released the trailer, revealing 20 contestants who will compete for survival in an extravagant castle.

It features Purav Jha, Karan Kundrra, Harsh Gujral, Karan Johar, Ashish G Vidyarthi, Apoorva, also known as Rebel Kid, Uorfi Javed, Jasmine Bhasin, Lakshmi Manchu, Raftaar, Elnaaz Norouzi, Nikita Luther, Anshula Kapoor, Raj Kundra, Janvi Gaur, Maheep Kapoor, Jannat Zubair, Mukesh Chhabra, Sudhanshu Pandey, Sahil Salathia, and Sufi Motiwala.

In the trailer, Karan referred to the participants as “shatir (clever)” who will reside in an extravagant, enigmatic castle.

He elaborates on the game where three “traitors” will be selected at the outset. These traitors will “murder” the innocent players daily, as stated by the host.
Raftaar comments, “If I am the traitor, I will exit through rapping.” Uorfi vows that she will shave her head if she is revealed to be a traitor.
Nevertheless, the contestants will seek ways to protect themselves by identifying the traitors among them. In one scene, Jasmin, Apoorva, and Jannat are depicted in tears as they confess, “This game is exceedingly difficult.”
Anshula responds to Maheep’s remarks, stating, “Aapka koi saga nahi hai. Sab aapko thugne aye hai (No one is truly yours. Everyone has come to deceive you).”

Internet reacts to The Traitors

Reacting to the trailer, a user took to the comment section of YouTube and called the show a, “Mix of Roadies, Bigg Boss and Splitsvilla.”

“Sophisticated Biggboss,” added another.

Someone also commented, “The show we never needed nor wanted still we got…”

The synopsis of the reality show mentions, “Welcome to The Traitors — a ruthless reality show hosted by the enigmatic Karan Johar. Here 20 players will openly betray each other for daily eliminations to compete for a grand prize. Hidden amongst the innocent players are the traitors who are out to murder each night. In this ruthless game, trust is rare and betrayal everywhere.”

The Traitors will be streaming online on Amazon Prime Video, starting 12 June. New episodes will be out every Thursday at 8 pm.

“The Traitors” is a psychological reality competition series that blends mystery, strategy, and deception. Originally based on the Dutch show De Verraders, it has gained popularity through adaptations in the UK, US, and other countries.

General Description:

Set in a remote and often luxurious location like a castle or manor, “The Traitors” gathers a group of contestants to participate in a game filled with suspense and manipulation. Among them are a few secretly designated Traitors, while the rest are known as Faithfuls.

• Goal of the Traitors: To eliminate the Faithfuls one by one without getting caught.
• Goal of the Faithfuls: To work together to uncover and banish the Traitors before they themselves are eliminated.

Each day features challenges to add money to a group prize fund, while each night the Traitors secretly “murder” a Faithful. The next day, all players gather to speculate, discuss, and vote to “banish” someone — ideally a Traitor. If the Traitors remain undetected until the end, they take the prize. If the Faithfuls succeed in eliminating all Traitors, they split the winnings.
